Ash Wednesday Service

Please join us for our family-wide Ash Wednesday service tomorrow night at 6:30pm in the Great Hall. We have invited our neighbors from Glen Leven Presbyterian Church to join us for the first time this year. The past few years, they have hosted a joint Ash Wednesday service, but they started to run out of room! So, we hope you’ll be able to make it for this very special occasion to mark the beginning of Lent.

First Wednesday Videos

Thanks to Sheila Yates for capturing these moments from our family-wide First Wednesday Worship, and thanks to all of you who came to worship with us!

First Wednesday Worship

This week, the whole church is invited to join us for First Wednesday in the Great Hall!

Some of the youth praise band will be joining with Michael Slayton to lead us in a powerful night of worship, and we’d love for it to be a family-wide event!

So, please join us, this Wednesday at 6:30!

Back-to-School Bash!

Students, parents, and volunteers,

You are all invited to join us this Wednesday at 6:30 in the Great Hall for our first, annual Back-to-School Bash!

Pizza will be served, and parents will have the opportunity to meet LifeGuards and hear more about what the youth ministries at Woodmont will be up to during this school year!

This will be a great time for the whole family to catch up, and get to know each other as we enter this new season. We will also be handing out a calendar of all of our major events from now through April!

Hope to see you there!

Wednesday Game Night!

This Wednesday at 6:30, we’re going to fellowship with one another and have one of our good ol’ fashioned game nights!

So, bring some games, bring some friends, and bring $3 for pizza.

Introducing: The Bridge Middle School Ministry

The time has finally arrived! Please join me in celebrating the arrival of The Bridge Middle School Ministry!

For over a year now, wise leaders at Woodmont Hills have felt a call to invest more fully in the middle school (6th-8th grade) members of our church body. This time between elementary and high school has its place in most educational systems, but we often fail to give early adolescents the support, time, and attention they deserve in the church world.

We have been slowly transitioning towards having a fully functioning and independent middle school ministry over the past several months, and this Sunday, August 12th, we will finally see its official launch!

As the Woodmont Hills Middle School Ministry, The Bridge will seek to not only bridge the gap between elementary and high school ministry, but we will (more importantly) seek to bridge the divides between Heaven and earth, the Church and the world.

In short, The Bridge will be about what Woodmont Hills is about: Loving God, loving each other, and serving the world.

This sunday, the 12th, 6th-8th graders will be meeting in Room 206 in the West Hall at 9am for Sunday classes. We will all meet together and then split up into LifeGroups with our amazing LifeGuards.

Wednesday night programming will continue to be 6th-12th grade in the youth area downstairs in the East Hall.

Parents of 6th grade students, please also note that 6th graders are invited to attend the Fall Retreat, September 7-9 (registration will begin soon).

As always, stay tuned for more ministry updates, announcements, and information here at WoodmontYG.com, and subscribe to receive email updates by clicking the “+Follow” button!

No Class Wednesday – Workcamp Worship

Hello all,

We will not be meeting for class next Wednesday, the 13th, due to Nashville Workcamp.

However, if you would like to join us at Workcamp worship at the West End Church of Christ, it will begin at 7:00pm in their sanctuary. Our dear friend and intern, Reid Hillin will be delivering the devotional thought that night as well!

Be ready for Wednesday, June 13th though, because it’s gonna be awesome! The praise band will be joining us, and we’ll be officially launching into our summer series.

Love you guys!

Peace,
Jesse

Dream Team! – Summer 2012

Pictured: Reid Hillin, David Sessions, Carly Kendrick, Lindsey Bell, Chet Butterworth, and Jesse Baker

We’re so excited to be working with four of the coolest people in the world this summer!

After many of you got to meet them last Wednesday, we left straight from church and spent a couple days getting to know each other out on the Buffalo River. David and I can’t wait for you to get to know them too.

Not only are the funny, fun to be around, and easy to talk to, they each love the Lord deeply and long to know Him more. I trust that love will be contagious as they walk with us these next few months. So, seek them out. They’re all pumped to meet you, and they’ve already started putting their heads together to dream up some great stuff for this summer.

Join us again this Wednesday to get to know these guys better and to officially kick off the summer!

Intern Ice Cream Party!

Clockwise: Carly, Chet, Lindsey, and Reid

Summer is here, and, this Wednesday, our interns will be too! Help us welcome them by joining us in the small courtyard (between the ‘white house’ and the church building) for an Intern Ice Cream Party at 6:00pm.

We believe that the Lord has provided us with four incredible young people to help lead our youth group this summer, and we want to celebrate their arrival accordingly!

Please bring $2 for ice cream, and feel free to come hang out even if you don’t want any. The interns will be leading class at 6:30.

Did someone say, “Grill-out?”

Tomorrow night before church (5:30 pm) we are going to grill out. Jesse and I will cook hamburgers and hotdogs. Please bring $2 to help offset the cost and any chips or sides you may want to eat or share.

This Coming Wednesday Night

We started the Season of Lent with Woodmont’s College students by celebrating Ash Wednesday way back on February 22nd. I thought it was a really terrific experience and the people I talked to afterwards said the same thing. Well it seemed appropriate to end the Lenten Season together with the College students the same way we started it.

Holy Thursday, also called Maundy Thursday, is a worship service that remembers the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples before he was arrested later that night when Judas betrayed him. It is typically a more solemn service; more like Ash Wednesday than Easter Morning, but not necessarily a depressing service. When we remember that we, just like Jesus closest disciples, often turn our backs on Jesus, it reminds us all the more powerfully of his indescribable love for us. It also seems to make Easter morning make more sense.

While we will be celebrating Holy Thursday on Wednesday night, I hope you guys who came on Ash Wednesday will come to this too, and bring your friends. So, this Wednesday at 6:30 in room 205 be there and step into the story of Jesus with us.

This is Happening
