Girls’ Retreat and More

The First Ever Girls’ Retreat was a huge success! I have trouble finding the words to express how wonderful you girls are. Donna, the camp caretaker, wanted to be sure I told you how impressed she was with how well you cleaned the Virginia Waller Center! It’s funny how we can touch people even when we are doing things like cleaning up after ourselves! You girls only solidified that David and Jesse have the BEST group of teens ever! Thank you for making this weekend so incredibly special for me. I loved watching you pour out your hearts in worship, share some of your deepest thoughts with your small groups, spending quiet time alone with God, and doing silly things together like a music video. I am praying for each of you as you are entering back into the hustle and bustle of your routines.

Do you want to see Annie again? Well, we have a great opportunity to hear her along with several other talented women at the Girls of Grace Conference on February 23rd. The Beautiful Truth is the can’t miss event for teen girls, equipping them with the tools they need to find their security in Christ. If you would like to see who will be speaking and the artists that will be attending, go to this link http://www.girlsofgrace.com/tour/nashville-tn. Right now I am trying to gage general interest. Ticket cost may be somewhere around $50, however, we are hoping to get a group discount to lower the cost. If you are interested in going please email me at kristinsessions@gmail.com

Just in case you’re reading this and you don’t know what happened this weekend. Here’s a little taste.

This Week at WoodmontYG…

There is a very special announcement coming this Sunday. I’m not going to tell you what it is. But I’ll give a hint that will never give it away; it starts with a “B” and has everything to do with this video.

First Wednesday Videos

Thanks to Sheila Yates for capturing these moments from our family-wide First Wednesday Worship, and thanks to all of you who came to worship with us!

1st Wednesday

I’m not exaggerating when I say this low quality video is one of my prized possessions. It is a video of our students worshipping their hearts out one Wednesday night not too long ago to a song that means more and more to me the longer I attempt to follow Christ. Also, it reminds me what we’re really doing when we worship; the resurrected body of Christ (us, The Church) is boldly proclaiming truth about God in this world. It’s what we do. We as individuals are created to come together as one body and, with our whole being, speak the the truth about The One who made us and saved us. It is as natural as a tree growing, a frog croaking, or a fish swimming. We are created to worship.

This is why I get so excited to break down the false walls we set up that divide us from the other parts of Christ’s Risen Body and tell us we can’t worship together. It may not be exactly the way we would always have it, we may not always get it, but that isn’t the point. We are created to come together with the rest of Christ’s Body and worship. It is the fulfillment of our existence.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday October 3rd, we are worshipping in The Great Hall with the rest of Woodmont. It will be in the same room as Sanctuary but it won’t be Sanctuary; at least not in style. I pray you will join me and Jesse and others in worship. Bring open minds and hearts. It just may be the very thing God created you to do.

Beat the Streets 2012

Check out this video about Steve’s Club Nashville, and then read the details below to learn how you can get involved with a Crossfit workout to benefit Steve’s Club that’s happening right here at Woodmont!

Beat the Streets is a CrossFit workout performed over the country each year to raise money for local branches of Steve’s Club or the National Program.  Each year the workout changes, but it is always fun and always scalable to any level of fitness.

How you can participate:

1. Do the workout!  CrossFitters love to CrossFit, and we love to coach people through trying it out for your first time.  Suggested participation donation of $25.

2.  Sponsor a Participant!  Maybe you want to sit this one out, and cheer on your friend or family member.  That’s ok, we need the cheers!  If you donate online be sure to let us know who you are sponsoring, or you can give cash or checks to the athlete to bring to the event.

3.  Just Enjoy the Show!  Come on out and have a good time!  Donation or not, all are welcome!  We believe CrossFit is wonderful for children, because it’s so much fun for adults.  Come see why we love it!

Where and When:

  • September 30th, 2012 – Woodmont Hills Family of God
  • 10:30am to 1:30pm – Heats will be starting every 30 minutes.
  • We’ll be in the courtyard with the pillars.

The workout takes about 20 minutes, and you’ll be working in teams of 2 or 3.  Feel free to put a team together ahead of time or teams will also be organized on site.

Cash and checks will be collected at the event, but to donate with a credit card please visit the Steve’s Club Nashville website.

Hope to see you there for a day of fun and fitness CrossFit style!

This Sunday in High School Class…

What is hope? What do you hope in? How could hope be dangerous? Who would we scare if we hoped in big things?

Summer Review Videos

I just can’t begin to explain how much God did in and through WoodmontYG this summer.

I can’t begin to explain the amazing ways God brought healing and peace to hearts that were breaking and confused. While there is still hurt and we don’t have all the answers we learned three things with out a doubt this summer.

1) God is, as he always is, bringing his people from places of pain to places of peace; Promised Places

2) God has made us a family, and we are determined to stick together

3) WoodmontYGers know how to party

Here are some videos that will do a far better job explaining some of, but not all, the incredible things that God did in and through his youth this summer.

They are in chronological order

Nashville WorkCamp

Medina Mission Trip

Camp Telos

Woodmont Trek

I hope you enjoy watching these as much as I enjoyed living them.

I love my job and these students so stinking much!

Summer Review

We are having our Summer Review this Sunday, August 12th at 6:30 pm in the Great Hall. Part of having such an awesome summer is properly wrapping it up and that’s what we intend to do this Sunday night. So, come we celebrate with us as we remember all the amazing things God has done through this youth group this summer.

If you are an adult, you are so invited, and even encouraged, to come and see the results of your financial, spiritual, and emotional support.

If you are a student, we will have a time where you can tell the rest of the Woodmont Family some of the amazing things you were able to do. So think about answering this question, “Where did I see God this summer.”

There also might be free ice-cream involved. So, please think about coming to the church this Sunday from 6:30 to about 7:30 to hear and see all the amazing ways God worked through WoodmontYG this summer.

Intern Bash!

I don’t want it to be true, but this is the last week of our summer with the awesome interns. Even as I type this, they are cracking me up from the other room with an endless stream of jokes that are only funny because we’ve lived life together this summer. Next week when they’re not here and the office is quiet, my heart will miss them deeply.

There is an announcement coming but it seems emotionally/sentimentally apropos to link the single best early 90′s R&B song ever

This Sunday from 6:30 to 9:00 pm we will be having an intern fair-well party at Woodmont. Eat dinner before you come, but we will have some snacks and drinks.

Update 6:05pm: old people people of all ages are welcome

Help!

We need your pictures and videos from summer! We are working hard on the end of the year video and we really want the rest of the church to know all the awesome ways God has moved through our family this summer, so help us out by sending me (Dave) your pictures and videos from this summer.

I specifically need pictures and videos from: Nashville Workcamp, Junior Impact, Medina, Camp, and Trek.

In other words, as much as I’d love to see the reals from your Grandparents 85th wedding anniversary/family run-on, let’s keep it to WoodmontYG related stuff.

Send your stuff in as high resolution as possible to dsessions@woodmont.org

If your emails get bounced back its probably because we’ve overloaded the server, so, as a back up, send them to sessionsdt@gmail.com

Peace
Dave
