Senior Sunday Volunteers

Next Sunday is Senior Sunday when we celebrate our senior leaders as they open the next chapter of their lives.

This is a family event for us, so we will not be having regularly scheduled classes. Instead, we are calling you to come to worship to support our seniors and serve by participating in the service.

We need singers and communion servers.

If you’d like to sing in the choir, please email jbaker@woodmont.org. Singers will come to the choir room at 7:30am on Sunday, and sing for both services. This will be fun, and you’ll probably know every single song. Do it!

We also need communion servers for both services (if you’d like to do both, that’s great too!). If you’d like to serve communion, also email jbaker@woodmont.org and indicate if you can do 1st, 2nd, or both services.

We need you guys to make this happen! Help us represent WoodmontYG and our seniors with the spirit of service they deserve!

6th Grade Spring Classes

Hey 6th graders!

As many of you have already heard, we will beginning the annual 6th grade spring classes in a few weeks, so I wanted to post some details about it for you!

First of all, we will still be meeting in The Bridge for the first half hour or so for our time together with The Story, but then, instead of going to the 6th grade LifeGroup, 6th grade will split into the Promise (girls) and Knights of the Cross (guys) classes. Therefore, these classes will get started around 9:40am each Sunday and will probably run into second service. The reason being that we still wanted the 6th grade to be involved in The Story with the rest of the church through the end of the series while also giving this incredible opportunity for focused teaching with parents and mentors.

All that being said, here are the schedules for the two classes:

Promise (Contact Dawn Gray or Nancy Osman with any questions)

Wednesday, February 26 – Class Kick-off for Mothers/Daughters: 6:30-7:30
Sunday March 10, 17, 24 – Girls only

Sunday April 7 – Daddy/Daughter class
Sunday April, 14, 21, 28, May 5 – Mother/Daughter Class
Sunday May 12 – Mothers Day- no class
Sunday May 19 – Promise Closing Ceremony at 10:30am

Knights of the Cross (contact Jared Bowlin or David Gnewikow with any questions)

March 3 – Class for Fathers/Mentors only. No young men.
March 10, 17, 24 – Class for Fathers and Sons
March 31 – No class, Easter
April 7, 14, 21 – Class for Fathers and Sons
April 28, May 5 – Class for young men only – no Dad’s allowed
May 12 – Mother’s Day, no class

Whitsitt Food Drive Flier

Some folks were having trouble with the link so here is the flyer for all the dates of the foo drive. Again, this week we really need caned veggies and if you can bring caned meat too, that would be great

Christmas Festival this Sunday: Service Opportunity

This Sunday is our annual, Woodmont Hills Christmas festival!

That’s right, SANTA!

There will be brunch, ponies, carriage rides, crafts, caroling  fun, joy, and merriment for the whole family. Last year, Santa even showed up!

The festival will be taking place from noon to 2pm right after second service, and we would love for you to serve during a portion of that time.

We will need people to serve drinks at brunch, help with various clean-up jobs, and to help with the craft areas.

If you can stick around to serve, stick around in the lobby after second service, and we’ll put you to work!

Hope you’ll be able to celebrate and serve with us!

Thanksgiving Class Changes & Change for Children

There will not be any youth classes this Wednesday (tomorrow) or Sunday (the 25th) due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

However, our annual Y.E.S. Christmas Store “Change for Children” drive will be starting the 25th, so please bring your piggy banks if you’re going to be at church!
If you’re travelling, no problem, Change for Children will last through December 9th.

Calendar Corrections

We have just noticed 2 mistakes we made in communicating dates.

The first is this: We’ve been incorrectly announcing in several places there will not be youth classes this Sunday. Our bad, we got mixed up on the date of Thanksgiving. There will be youth classes this Sunday, November 18th. There will not be youth classes Sunday the 24th, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

The second is this: The calendar magnet we mailed out earlier this year says the Whitsitt Easter Egg Hunt is March 23rd. Well, as it turns out Easter is pretty tricky to figure out and the Whitsitt Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday March 5th instead.

Please contact us if there is any confusion.

Read Ahead: Chapter Ten!

Don’t forget to read ahead! We’ll be in Chapter Ten: Standing Tall, Falling Hard this week.

Our 6th-8th graders checked, sorted, and organized almost 450 bags of groceries donated to families in need this afternoon.

Thanks for all your hard work, middle schoolers! You guys ROCK!

Flag Football Schedule

I feel like I need to start each Flag Football announcment with an apology because I hate how late I’m getting you this information. I promise, I’m giving it as soon as its being confirmed to me.

The Guys will play at 2:30

The Girls are playing at 3:30

This is our last regular season game.

Operation Christmas Child

9-12 Grade Girls

Your invited to The Weeks’ home this Sunday at 5 to help with an amazing charity that blesses people from around the world who may not experience Christmas the same way we do.

Our Flag Football games will be over by 4:30 so if you would like to carpool or snag a ride from the games Mrs. Stacy has offered to do that.

If you’d like to be part of this project providing a special Christmas gift box to an underprivileged child, we invite you to bring a sturdy shoe box (cardboard or plastic) and an assortment of small toys, trinkets, school supplies, etc. that would be appropriate.  You may also add candies and gum, but no chocolate please, as it may melt.  Also, bring a note card or Christmas card to be included in your box. You can write a blessing for the child who will receive your box. Lastly, please bring $5 for shipping and, after your gift box is finished, why not say a little prayer for the child who will be thrilled to receive it!

Harvest Sunday Info

Middle and High School classes will be combined this Sunday for a special Harvest Sunday youth class!

We will gather in the youth room in the basement level of the East Hall at 9am to celebrate the harvest. There will be worship, a message from the story of Ruth, and donuts!

Also…

Middle school students and Lifeguards (6th-8th), don’t forget to join us for an hour or so after second service on Sunday to help organize and sort the bags of donated groceries from Harvest Sunday. A delicious and nutritious lunch of pizza will be provided for those able to serve!

Hope you’re able to stick around!
