Workcamp 2013 Schedule and Info

Workcamp Logo SquareWhat you will find below is just about everything you need to know if you, or your child, are attending Workcamp. Comment at the bottom to let us know if you have any additional questions.

Workcamp begins Sunday, June 2rd and will be at Woodmont this year. Woodmont students will need to check in with Jesse or David starting at 4pm. The activities start at 4:30, and dinner starts at 5pm.

Monday-Thursday Schedule:

8:00 AM      Morning Wake-UP (Great Hall at Woodmont)
9:00 AM      Work at Sites
NOON         Lunch at Sites (Bring your own lunches)
3:00 PM      Return to Woodmont/Afternoon Pick-up
(Students are strongly encouraged to go home or go to a friend’s home to shower during this break, because we only have one shower at church. However, if they need to stay, they should make arrangements and bring soap, shampoo, change of clothes, etc. to shower at the building.)
6:00 PM      Evening Meal/Worship at Lipscomb*
8:30 PM      Wrap Up/Pick up from Woodmont/Go Home & Sleep!

Workcamp concludes at Lipscomb’s campus on Friday night, June 7th, with an informal banquet, media presentation, and a period of praise & thanksgiving.  We expect to conclude by 9:00pm on Friday night.

Additional info:

  • Each student will be responsible for bringing his/her own 4″ paint brush, spray bottle, heavy duty paint scraper, and work gloves.
  • We will need to borrow ladders (step and extension) for the week, so if you have ladders we can borrow, please let us know.
  • Lunches are not provided and need to be packed for each day. Put the lunch in a plastic bag with the camper’s name on it, because lunches will be kept on ice in coolers along with the other members of the crew. (Often, crew leaders will plan to go somewhere to eat lunch one day during the week. Make sure your camper lets you know about this, so you can send money instead of a lunch.)
  • Campers will get paint on their clothes, plan accordingly.
  • Campers must wear closed-toe shoes, no exceptions.
  • Wear sunscreen.
  • During the afternoon break, we encourage families who live close and are able to pick up their campers to do so. Showers are limited at the building, and clean-up will be much quicker if campers are able to go home. If it’s not possible to arrange getting them home in the afternoon, please consider sending them with a friend that can be picked up.
  • Campers that are not picked up in the afternoon will be supervised, but they will need to make arrangements to bring soap, shampoo, towel, change of clothes, etc. at the beginning of the day.
  • Nightly dinners are included in the cost.
  • Crews consist of teens from various youth groups from around the region. Crew assignments are more-or-less randomly generated to create diversity. This provides a wonderful opportunity to make connections with teens outside of our youth group.
  • Each crew will have around 10-20 campers and two or three crew leaders. There are also “sector leaders” that check in with crews throughout the day.
  • We are excited to be taking over 40 students to Workcamp. David, Jesse, and the four interns will all be participating as adult leaders.
  • If special arrangements need to be made to pick up or drop off a camper from their work site, be sure your camper gets their crew leaders’ contact information. They will receive the address of their work site along with their crew assignments on Sunday night.
  • If a student has to miss a day, David and Jesse need to know so they can report to their crew leaders.

Again, please comment below if you have any additional questions. Thank you!

*PLEASE NOTE: The evening meal and worship on Thursday night will be held at Woodmont.

Application Extension for Mission: Albany

bridgelogosquareGood news, middle schoolers! I just found out that you can sign up for Mission: Albany for a few more weeks until we fill all of our spots! We need applications by June 16th at the absolute latest. Encourage friends to apply as well!

Visit our Forms page to find the application.

Parents, please email me if you have any questions about the trip.
Also, if you (or your student) would like to go, but you feel like there’s something standing in your way, just let me know.

May We Borrow Your Ladder for Nashville Workcamp?

Without your help providing ladders last year, Matthew would still be on that roof.

If your family has a step or extension ladder that you wouldn’t mind parting with for a short time this summer, we’d like to borrow it for Nashville Workcamp.

We’ll be painting houses for Workcamp from June 2nd-7th, so we would need you to drop off your ladders between the 26th of this month and June 2nd. Please write your family name on the ladders so we remember who they belong to, and you can drop them off by the columns on the 26th or 2nd. If you need to come at another time, please contact us to let us know.

They will be ready to return to you by Sunday, June 9th.

If you can loan a ladder to us, please email dsessions@woodmont.org and jbaker@woodmont.org to give us an idea of how many to expect.

Thank you very much for your support!

Middle School Mission Deadline

Now that we have our results from the Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, I am pleased to announce an official deadline and price for our Middle School Mission trip to Albany, Georgia.

Applications will be due by May 19th along with a $100 deposit.*

The total cost of the trip will be $230 total (or $130 after the deposit). The incredible support shown at the Pancake Breakfast lowered the cost by $70 a person!

The full total will be due by June 23rd, and students are encouraged to raise money by writing letters to people that do not attend church at Woodmont (as to avoid overwhelming the same group of people with requests) or by any other means necessary, if they so choose.

All middle school students, 6th-8th grade, are encouraged to apply. If you’d like to know more about the nature of the trip, you can learn more here.

*If, for some reason, there is not room for a student, or they are not selected as a member of the team, this deposit will be refunded after May 19th.

Medina Meeting Rescheduled

Again, the new time for the Medina Informational meeting that, if you can, would be a really good idea for all teenagers and parents to attend, will be Wednesday, May 8th at Woodmont in the Teen Center at 5:00 pm.

Hey everybody! It’s time to get your Nashville Workcamp applications in ASAP! The deadline to have your application is April 14th… That’s this Sunday! If money is an issue, we can take that later, or work out another plan, but we must have the application by this Sunday. Nashville Workcamp is always one of my favorite things in the summer and I want all of you to be able to experience God’s gift of losing yourself in serving others.

Go to the “Forms” tab at the top of this page, find the Workcamp link, print it off, fill it out, and turn it in.

About: Middle School Mission Albany

Hey families with middle school students!

I’m sure you’ve been wondering more about the Middle School Mission Trip to Albany, Georgia, and I just received a great resource for you!

My friend, Tommy Johnson, youth minister at Westwood Church in Albany was kind enough to write a letter detailing what the week was like for his group last year. We will be teaming up with the Westwood group not only during this week, but also during Jr. IMPACT as we did last summer.

So, if you’re interested in learning more about the trip, check it out here: Mission Change Letter 2013.

We are currently accepting applications for the trip, and you can find out more about that here: Apply for the Middle School Mission Trip.

Apply for the Middle School Mission Trip!

We are now officially accepting applications for the Middle School Mission Trip to Albany, Georgia!

The application can be found here: Mission Albany 2013 Application

You can apply by turning in the application to the black mail box along with a $100 deposit. The deposit will not pay for the entire trip and we will reveal the total cost once we have a clearer picture of the number of people going and how well we do at the pancake breakfast fundraiser. But, as always, if money is an issue please let me (Jesse) know because we have scholarships available and money will never be a reason why a student does not get to participate at anything at WoodmontYG.*

We are also requiring five (5) hours of service that must be done  to qualify for this trip. If you have already logged some hours (must be done between August 2012 – June 2013) be sure to mark them down on the Albany Service Hours Form.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I’ll be happy to help!

*Space for this trip is limited, so if a student is not selected, this deposit will be refunded.
