Dudefest, BRO!
Listen up, bro-chachos.
This is the week of Guys’ Retreat Dudefest.
Many of you have manned-up for Dudefest already, but it seems that there are several delicate flowers out there who aren’t sure how much they dig havin’ stellar hangs chillin’ with their dude-bros. If that’s you, then, GET IT TOGETHER, BRO.
If you know what’s good for ya, then you’ll get yourself signed-up for the best weekend of your life by this Wednesday. If you don’t know what’s good for you, then some combination of the three men below will be happy to teach you. #MANSTUFF
So get those forms in, PRONTO, because the last thing you want in this man’s life is to miss out on Dudefest.
OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF:
- Meet us in the front parking lot of Woodmont by 6pm to get loaded up on the bro-chariot (charter bus) and head towards Bro Town (Bethany Hills Christian Camp).
- The weather forecast is looking DUDE-TASTIC:
But, do yourself a favor and remember that we’re gonna be outside a lot (because we’re men). In other words, BRING A JACKET AND STUFF, BRO.
- You should totally bring snacks, but remember your bros, and bring enough to share, A-bro-ham Lincoln.
- If you fish, then bring that tackle, brah, because there’s a POND. (We will make no actual guarantees about whether or not there are actual fish in the pond.)

- DON’T BRING YOUR GIRLFRIEND, BRO. No, seriously. Don’t bring your cell phone if it’s going to be a distraction. This is bro time, for bros only. Ain’t nobody got time for you texting your Brocohontas.
- Bring a Bible, Brobi-Wan Kenobi! You might just read it if you have it with you!
- Please bring soap, shampoo, towel, and more than one pair of underpants. Just because we’re men, doesn’t mean we’re animals! HYGIENE, BROSKI. (Even you, middle schoolers. I see you… and, more importantly, I smell you.)

It’s time to get those forms in for Guys’ Retreat (Dudefest).
Here’s the deal. If you don’t get them in on or before January 9th, then the price will go up from $60 to $75. That’s $15 you could be using to buy 5lbs of bacon… or flowers for your mother, because you’re considerate like that.
You don’t want to miss this weekend. Because you’re a man.

David and I went to visit the place where we’ll be having Dude-fest January 18-20th, and it’s awesome!
Don’t forget to turn in your forms by January 9th. (On January 10th a $15 late fee will be added.)

Guys’ Retreat!
Well the girls just finished the first ever WoodmontYG Girls’ Retreat so it’s only appropriate we start talking about the 1st Ever WoodmontYG Guy’s Retreat.
The 1st Ever WoodmontYG Guys’ Retreat (Potential new name: Dudefest 2013) is scheduled for January 18th, 19th, and 20th at Camp Bethany Hills in Kingston Springs.
Nothing like a little bro time!
While we will do some talking about stuff guys care about, the real purpose of this retreat is to get to know each other and have some fun. It’s also a great event to invite friends to, especially ones that may not have church families.
So mark it on your calendar and go to our forms section to download an application.
The cost is $60. Scholarship money is available if necessary.
Applications and money are due by January 9th 2013. On January 10th a $15 late fee will be added.
Lastly, if we don’t already have an annual medical release form for each student we will need you to turn that in with the application. That form can also be found in on the forms page.
Girls’ Retreat and More
The First Ever Girls’ Retreat was a huge success! I have trouble finding the words to express how wonderful you girls are. Donna, the camp caretaker, wanted to be sure I told you how impressed she was with how well you cleaned the Virginia Waller Center! It’s funny how we can touch people even when we are doing things like cleaning up after ourselves! You girls only solidified that David and Jesse have the BEST group of teens ever! Thank you for making this weekend so incredibly special for me. I loved watching you pour out your hearts in worship, share some of your deepest thoughts with your small groups, spending quiet time alone with God, and doing silly things together like a music video. I am praying for each of you as you are entering back into the hustle and bustle of your routines.
Do you want to see Annie again? Well, we have a great opportunity to hear her along with several other talented women at the Girls of Grace Conference on February 23rd. The Beautiful Truth is the can’t miss event for teen girls, equipping them with the tools they need to find their security in Christ. Just in case you’re reading this and you don’t know what happened this weekend. Here’s a little taste.
Guest Submission from the World’s Most Beautiful Girl
She didn’t know I was going to put her picture on here.
First of all please remember the Girls’ Retreat application deadline is quickly approaching! I absolutely cannot wait to spend the weekend with everyone who can make it. Please please print off an application and turn it in ASAP!!
Secondly, I was reading Annie F. Downs’ book “Perfectly Unique” this morning and felt the need to reiterate how excited I am that she is coming to speak to us!! We are truly blessed to have this amazing opportunity to spend the weekend with such an inspirational sister in Christ.
As I read chapter 5 titled “Mouth,” I must confess that it hit a little too close to home. It was one of those moments that you know you could have only been placed there by the gentle guiding of God’s loving hand. Annie described 3 different circumstances happening all in one day that involved gossip. She had to spend 12 hours that day either involved in resolving gossip said about about her, gossip said about her sister, or cleaning up after gossip she was accused of spreading. Listen to what Annie had to say regarding this experience:
“Our mouths are powerful. Just look how in one day, in 12 hours exactly, mouths have changed everything. Something as small as a tongue has rocked my life.”
At the moment, I find myself in a situation that has been going on for far too long (5 months actually) that has been damaged by words. On this one particular day for me, words were spoken and a relationship that I cherish was altered. Now 5 months later we find ourselves trying to rebuild what was broken with someone’s words. Honestly, I am still dealing with the pain of this situation but praying for God to mend this very special relationship and to guard us from the evil that so easily entangles us.
I wanted to share this with you girls because I know that on a daily basis you are confronted with things from the mouth like gossip, sarcasm, boasting, crude jokes, cruel words, complaining, and do I need to go on?! But what we must remember is this:
“With your tongue, you create. The question you can ask yourself daily is this: What am I creating with the words I am saying?”- Annie Downs
Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Are you going through tough times with friends or family members where words that were exchanged were damaging? Then you don’t want to miss the opportunity to hear Annie speak. She speaks of real life situations, gives them perspective, and kindly encourages us to hear the call that God has for us as women and using the unique beauty (I’m not just talking about outward here) that was so intricately woven by God.
Her challenge for us today is this:
Listen to yourself today. What are you talking about? How is it honoring God?
Write these scriptures on your heart
Matthew 12:34- For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Proverbs 10:19- When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
Proverbs 16:24- Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Girls’ Retreat Applications Now Up!
Girls! Go print off your Girls’ Retreat application (on the “forms” page at the top) and turn it in along with $60 by October 28th ($75 after that date).
Big news! We now have author Annie Downs (visit her web-page here) coming to be our guest speaker for the entire weekend!
Annie recently published a book called Perfectly Unique which she describes as, “A candid, easy-to-read guide that uses real-life examples and faith-based instruction to equip girls with the confidence, faith and moxie they’ll need to face their teen and college years.”
We are quite lucky to get Annie to come be with us on the Girls’ Retreat and we hope you all are as excited as we are to hear and experience what God is teaching Annie.

How to Receive Travel Updates
Our youth group has the amazing opportunity to travel to different places for events like camp, retreats, mission trips, or otherwise. However, this often comes along with the possibility of travel delays or other outside circumstances that affect our schedule (today, being a prime example!).
So, how do you, as a parent, stay informed about arrival times and travel updates?
Here’s a couple options:
First and foremost, we will be using Yaptap for travel updates. Good news for those of you who have been unable to sign up for Yaptap in the past, there is now an easy-to-use sign-up page online.
Follow this link, and search for Woodmont Hills Student Ministry to get started.
Secondarily, we will use Twitter. And, we should also be able to get word to the church office about delays if you’d like to call Vera for updates.
These are the quickest ways to distribute updates from the road, so they will be the primary methods of communication in the event of a travel delay.
Beyond that, if you have not subscribed to this blog by clicking one of the “Follow” buttons, please do so. By choosing to follow the blog, you will receive an email update each time we post (you can also choose to receive a daily digest rather than multiple emails if we post more than once a day). This blog will almost always contain the most comprehensive and detailed information about our events and announcements.

Girls Retreat – Unfading Beauty
Girls! Mark your calendars for The Girls Retreat November 30th – December 2nd at Camp Hy-Lake near McMinville in Quebec Tennessee. The theme is “Unfading Beauty.”
The retreat is for all girls grades 6 – 12, the sign up forms and $60 are due by October 28th (From now on we will ask for a $15 late fee for turning either money or forms after the due date).
Kristin Sessions and your female Lifeguards are already working really hard on this and it is sounding like its going to be a really wonderful weekend.

The following is our Fall Retreat Schedule. I think I (Dave) may have told some of you wrong that we are meeting at 6:00, that is wrong, but not terribly wrong. See the schedule below.
Friday September 7th
6:30 – meet at Woodmont having already eaten dinner
7:00 – Leave for retreat (I know the temptation is to arrive at 6:55 because we don’t leave till 7, please don’t do that)
8:00 – Arrive at retreat and set up for the weekend
8:30 – Fun Activity
9:15 – Worship
10:45 – Lights out
Saturday – September 8:00
8:00 – Breakfast
9:00 – Morning Devo. (High School and Middle School will do this and Solo Time separately)
10:00 – Solo Time
11:00 – Lifegroups
12:15 – Lunch
1:00 – Activity
2:00 – Free time
5:00 – Dinner
6:00 – Special, surprise, super splendid guest star
7:30 – Worship
9:30 – Surprise activity
Sunday – September 9th
