Camp Telos 2013 Y’all!

Look at that slideshow! Would you just look at it?!

Sometimes I still can’t believe how much fun we had at Camp Telos 2012. I actually think part of my mind melted because it was so awesome, like maybe the part that remembers stuff. Because sometimes I just forget how awesome Telos 2012 was.

Well guess what?

In 2013, we’re turning the awesomeness up to 11!

This summer Camp Telos will be July 22-27 at Camp Valley View just north of Greenbrier, a mere 30 minute drive from Woodmont’s building!

Camp Valley View is, to steal a phrase from my illustrious colleague Hayes Holland, dope!

Ughh! Would you just look at how dope he is!

Ughh! Would you just look at how dope he is!

It has dope cabins, it has a dope kitchen/eating area, it has dope fields for ultimate and the like, it has a dope archery range, and on and on and on. Really, the dope-ness is incomprehensible.

But as dope as the camp grounds are, none of us will be able to anticipate the awesomeness God has planned for Camp Telos 2013.

So mark your calendars, tell your friends and stay tuned for updates.

Summer Review Videos

I just can’t begin to explain how much God did in and through WoodmontYG this summer.

I can’t begin to explain the amazing ways God brought healing and peace to hearts that were breaking and confused. While there is still hurt and we don’t have all the answers we learned three things with out a doubt this summer.

1) God is, as he always is, bringing his people from places of pain to places of peace; Promised Places

2) God has made us a family, and we are determined to stick together

3) WoodmontYGers know how to party

Here are some videos that will do a far better job explaining some of, but not all, the incredible things that God did in and through his youth this summer.

They are in chronological order

Nashville WorkCamp

Medina Mission Trip

Camp Telos

Woodmont Trek

I hope you enjoy watching these as much as I enjoyed living them.

I love my job and these students so stinking much!

Summer Review

We are having our Summer Review this Sunday, August 12th at 6:30 pm in the Great Hall. Part of having such an awesome summer is properly wrapping it up and that’s what we intend to do this Sunday night. So, come we celebrate with us as we remember all the amazing things God has done through this youth group this summer.

If you are an adult, you are so invited, and even encouraged, to come and see the results of your financial, spiritual, and emotional support.

If you are a student, we will have a time where you can tell the rest of the Woodmont Family some of the amazing things you were able to do. So think about answering this question, “Where did I see God this summer.”

There also might be free ice-cream involved. So, please think about coming to the church this Sunday from 6:30 to about 7:30 to hear and see all the amazing ways God worked through WoodmontYG this summer.

Help!

We need your pictures and videos from summer! We are working hard on the end of the year video and we really want the rest of the church to know all the awesome ways God has moved through our family this summer, so help us out by sending me (Dave) your pictures and videos from this summer.

I specifically need pictures and videos from: Nashville Workcamp, Junior Impact, Medina, Camp, and Trek.

In other words, as much as I’d love to see the reals from your Grandparents 85th wedding anniversary/family run-on, let’s keep it to WoodmontYG related stuff.

Send your stuff in as high resolution as possible to dsessions@woodmont.org

If your emails get bounced back its probably because we’ve overloaded the server, so, as a back up, send them to sessionsdt@gmail.com

Peace
Dave

[Camp Cleanup] PARTY TOMORROW!

Hey everyone!

Come by our offices at 11am tomorrow to help us with camp cleanup. It will be an enormous help to us, and it will give us all an excuse to hang out again!

We’ll even pay you in pizza.

See you there!

Info for Sunday, July 8th

There is no youth class tomorrow morning at 9am.

Registration for camp will begin at 1:30 and the busses will leave at 2pm. Please do not show up for registration any later than 1:45!

Registration will be taking place in the lobby of youth offices (in the “White House”). If you are unfamiliar with the offices, go into the small courtyard between the White House and the Main building, and there should be someone there to direct you.

Please bring any remaining release forms with you to registration. We must have all waivers completed before the camper can board the bus.

Campers do not need to bring cell phones. They won’t work at camp, and they will be taken up if a counselor sees one being used.
Campers should bring a bottle for water, white clothes that may get dirty, sun screen, closed-toe shoes, a Bible, a notebook, a pen, anything they might need for a talent show act, and the other items noted on the packing list.

If you have any other questions, please leave them in the comment section below.

Adults, We Need Your Help!

Are you a responsible adult male and/or a medical professional? If so, we want you to come to camp!

We are very slim on adult volunteers for camp next week, and especially short on male counselors. We also need a camp “nurse.”

Please let us know if you are available to join us next week. It would be an enormous help for us, and an incredible experience for you!

We will leave on Sunday afternoon and return on Friday afternoon (the 13th), and it would be ideal if you could be with us the whole week. We know this is short notice, but we can also promise that it would be well worth the effort. It’s going to be an amazing week.

Let us know if you can help!

Camp Volunteer Info

Happy Monday to all of the wonderful volunteers coming to camp this year!

If you have not already, we need a few things from you:

  • Camp Coker Creek Waiver (This is different from the Woodmont waiver.)
  • Background Check form (If you haven’t already done one for Woodmont)
  • $90

Also, if you have not given us a solid commitment one way or another about being at camp, please do so ASAP!

College counselor applicants, you should have received an email with information this morning. If you did not, please email me to let me know (jbaker@woodmont.org).

College Co-Counselor Applications

Are you a college age student who would like to help out at Camp Telos this year? If so, go to our “forms” page find the “2012 counselor application” form, print it out and put it in the black mail box at church. Or, if you’re tech savvy enough, download it, edit it with your information and email it to vphipps@woodmont.org. We will have a selection process that involves a group of people with Camp’s best interest at heart.
Camp’s going to be so great this year!

Camp Telos 2012

“Is it too late to sign up for camp this year?” That’s a question I’ve been getting asked a lot lately. The simplest answer is no, but please help us make camp MORE AWESOME by signing up very soon. There are so many things we need to plan for and the more we can plan ahead, the more cool things we can do.

Also, to encourage you to sign up soon, we are going to raise the price of camp form its current price of $205 to $230 if you sign up after June 24th.

Awesome-Lifeguard-Joe-Walkup and I drove up to Camp Coker Creek yesterday and they have updated a lot of things. He and I kept talking about how much the caretakers have invested into the grounds. Personally, it was a chance for me to see how all our planning and coordinating will begin to take shape and the place where I fully anticipate God to change lives this summer.

I am so excited for what God will do this summer through camp and I want everyone of you to get to be a part of it. Please sign up today by going to the “forms” page on this website and clicking on the “Camp Telos” link. Print it off and turn it into the black mailbox at church.
