Come Hang with Us During the Interns’ Last Week!

Hey guys! Here’s a schedule for the rest of the week! I’ll update every night before/morning of on Facebook to remind you of what’s going on for the day, but here’s all of it in one place!

Monday: Nashville Sounds vs. Albuquerque Isotopes Game at Greer Stadium at 7:05 PM; it’s Dollar Hot Dog Night, so bring a few dollars to eat. Meet at 6 PM at Woodmont to carpool.

Tuesday: Girls’ Bible Study at 4 PM at the intern offices; Baseball at the Crieve Hall fields on Hogan Road at 6 PM. Bring old shoes because the clay has just been laid on the field and it’ll probably stain. Bring your own bat and a picnic dinner if you like! I’m bringing McDonalds!

Wednesday: Brushfire Pottery and Pizza at 12 PM. We’ll meet at Brushfire and order pizza next door at Papa Johns. If you want lunch, bring $3 to cover the cost. Painting pottery usually costs about $5 at the cheapest for things like tiles and small figurines, and you can paint plates and mugs for about $12-15. Girls and guys welcome. We’re going to have some fun! We’ll be meeting at McDonalds on Franklin Pike for dinner at 5:30 before church again. We’ll have church and then afterward, the girls are having a sleepover at the Fishers’ House at 614 Dahlia Drive. We have another late dinner, cookies, an awesome movie, and a little fellowship planned for that time together.

Thursday: Build-A-Bear workshop at 12 PM. We’ll be going to Cool Springs Mall to make a stuffed animal for Lindsey to take with her to Uganda. Anyone who wants to kiss the heart can come! We’ll probably eat lunch out there too. Meet at Woodmont at 12 Noon to carpool out there! The interns will be busy that night, so we don’t have anything planned for this night.

Friday: Safari Fridays at Nashville Zoo at 11 PM. Meet at Woodmont at 11 AM to carpool! Fridays in July and August are ‘buy one get one free’ ticket times if you bring in a Kroger receipt and Kroger plus card. Pair up with someone and split the $15 cost of the ticket! Directions from the Zoo website: Kroger Plus Card holders must present their card AND any Kroger receipt at the Nashville Zoo ticket booth to receive the “buy one, get one” deal. Zoo staff will keep the Kroger receipt. Go buy a drink for the zoo or ask your parents if they have one before you come with us or you won’t get the deal. Then, at 6 PM, we’ll be having a cookout at Woodmont!

Saturday: The Drive in Theatre has been cancelled. The movies playing aren’t appropriate to take youth groups to, so we had to change our plans. We will be having a Thrift Store Formal that night! During the day, go to the nearest Goodwill or Thriftsmart and get the tackiest, ugliest formal clothes you can find. We’re going to go out to eat for dinner— in those clothes. We’ll meet at Cici’s Pizza on Nolensville road at 7 PM. Afterward, we’ll come back to the Woodmont Youth Room and HAVE A DANCE PARTY.

Nashville Sounds Game Monday Night!

Hey dudes! Tonight marks the last Monday of the interns’ summer with us, so we’re going to be doing a lot of fun things this week to finish out their summer with a huge bang. We’ll be posting a schedule of the rest of the week very soon, so stay tuned!

Tonight we’re going to Greer Stadium together to watch the Nashville Sounds take on the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7:05 PM. Meet at Woodmont at 6 PM to carpool over to the stadium together. Bring a dollar if you want a hot dog, since it’s DOLLAR HOT DOG NIGHT! Can’t wait to see you guys! And maybe we’ll even catch a foul ball or two!

Victory in Appalachia Day!

Pictured (L-R): Taylor Moseley, Olivia Shumate, and Ethan Harris: Professional Wilderness Conquerors

As expected, the hills, mountains, cliffs, mountain cougars, raging white waters, biting goats, and rivers of lava have proved no match for our fearless adventurers.

Not only will our team of rugged expeditioneers be returning victorious, they will be returning almost a full day ahead of schedule. Take that, Mother Nature.

The team will now stop in the bustling metropolis of Franklin, North Carolina to feast like royalty and be showered with riches (and water and soap and stuff, hopefully), before mounting the mighty steeds that will carry them home to the hordes of admirers awaiting their return.

We can likely expect them around 4pm, or roughly thirty seconds after hearing the sonic boom and fifteen seconds after seeing fire streak through the sky.

Happy V-A Day! (I’ll post updates if the group’s ETA changes at all.)

Service Opportunity with United Way

Tomorrow, if anyone is interested, United Way is doing a school supply drive and they need help sorting and stuffing backpacks for metro schools.

It’s 11:00-1:00 at Napier Elementary school and there will be as many as 3000 backpacks for underprivileged kids returning to school in Davidson County to be packed.

Lunch will be provided, and all you need to do is show up to help.

To All the Corners of The Earth (And Beyond!) – Trek Travel Update

Our intrepid and fearless explorers are well on their path to manifest destiny this afternoon, as they have arrived safely in Franklin, North Carolina to begin their journey into the unknown.

We have full confidence that they will discover many new lands and species, both flora and fauna, on their path to greatness. No beast will dare raise a hoof against them and no mountain will seem more than a foothill, for they are the great wanderers, the conquerors of the earth, and living legends among mere day-hikers.

Wish them well on their journey, friends. May God give them the strength to endure the most momentous of all tasks before them: spending a week without access to Facebook.

Godspeed, adventurers.

Reflections on Summer (so far)

Now that we’re back from camp, and much of my time is now devoted to looking forward to the fall, I’ve been thinking a lot about these past few months. They have flown by, but they have been truly amazing.

Believe it or not, in a couple months I will have completed my first full year with Woodmont, and that thought simply blows me away.

It’s been a crazy year in all the best ways, and I’ve loved being able to work with each of you day-in and day-out. You are an incredible group of people, and you’ve proven that this summer.

Let’s just reflect on what all we’ve done this summer:

  • We danced like crazy people at Camp Sonrise.
  • We painted ourselves silly and made other groups jealous of how much fun we were having at Nashville Workcamp.
  • You worshiped your hearts out, and we laughed at Mr. T and Dora the Destroyer at Jr. High IMPACT.
  • David and some awesome high school students did some serious service in Medina (there was also plenty of dancing there, of course).
  • We had one of the coolest camp experiences I’ve ever had in my life at Camp Telos, and you fully embraced the idea of community and telos (oh, and more dancing… a LOT more dancing).
  • You came back ready to serve, and several of you have helped make VBS not only possible, but awesome.
  • Next week a few of you will hike through Appalachia, admiring the glory of God’s creation in the hills, trees, rocks, and streams (You’ll probably find some reason to dance there too).
  • You’ve spent late nights in parking lots, on buses, and in cabins with some of the most amazing adult volunteers and interns in the world.
  • You’ve grown in your understanding and relationship with Christ… Although there’s no way to truly measure it, believe me, we can see it in you.

I could go on and on about the way you have taken full advantage of this summer, but I think the best thing we can do is to cherish the rewards of the community that occurs when we get serious about loving one another. You guys have done that this summer, and everything about our youth group is better for it.

But it won’t stop there.

As we pursue God’s desires for us as his people, we have the opportunity and the responsibility to share that with the other members of the body around us. You will be what energizes this church and gives it life. Like a crisp, cool breeze on a muggy summer day like today… your excitement for the story of God is breathing new life into this church.

I saw that in full-effect on Sunday morning. What you may perceive as little things like shouting “Satan was defeated!” and grooving to “Take the Lord With You” carries far more weight than you might realize. Just so you know, our whole staff commented on how much joy it brings them to see you guys in worship, excited just to be there with each other and the rest church, our family of God.

Just like you did at Workcamp, you guys are making this more fun for all of us, and I LOVE it.

You are an amazing group people. Each of you impress me and make me proud all the time. I hope I tell you that as much as you deserve to hear it, but I know there’s no way I could ever say it enough. To borrow a phrase from David: We’re glad you’re a part of this family. We love you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Never stop being silly, fun, and passionate. Never stop dancing. Never stop singing.

May we become today what we will be in eternity.

May we be children of God.

Amen.

Want to watch The Dark Knight Tonight at the Fishers’?

What up, ya’ll? Tonight there will be a get-together at the Fishers’ house to get us pumped for seeing The Dark Knight Rises tomorrow at midnight! After church tonight, we’ll be watching The Dark Knight. Their address is 416 Dahlia Drive, Brentwood, TN.

Come see The Dark Knight Rises with us at Midnight!

Hey guys! We’re going to be taking a group to see the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, on Thursday night, July 19th, technically 20th, at midnight! If you want to join us, purchase your ticket for the 12:05 showtime (THE FIRST ONE ON THE PAGE) at the Green Hills movie theatre for Thursday. The movie has almost a three hour runtime, so we’ll be getting out a bit late. Here is the link to the Fandango page to get a ticket. So we can find each other easiest, everyone meet at The Cheesecake Factory at 10:45 PM, outside near the patio area, and we’ll walk over together so we can all sit near each other in the theatre.  Hope to see you there!

[Camp Cleanup] PARTY TOMORROW!

Hey everyone!

Come by our offices at 11am tomorrow to help us with camp cleanup. It will be an enormous help to us, and it will give us all an excuse to hang out again!

We’ll even pay you in pizza.

See you there!

Camp Pick Up at 3pm

The busses should arrive at Woodmont between 3:00 and 3:30.

We’re Heading Home!

We’re currently headed home from an INCREDIBLE week at camp, and we want to keep you updated on our arrival time.

We were able to leave on schedule, but there is standstill traffic on I-40, so we will not be back at 2:30 as planned. For now, please plan for student pickup at 3pm, but stay tuned for more updates.

Thank you, and see you soon!

Info for Sunday, July 8th

There is no youth class tomorrow morning at 9am.

Registration for camp will begin at 1:30 and the busses will leave at 2pm. Please do not show up for registration any later than 1:45!

Registration will be taking place in the lobby of youth offices (in the “White House”). If you are unfamiliar with the offices, go into the small courtyard between the White House and the Main building, and there should be someone there to direct you.

Please bring any remaining release forms with you to registration. We must have all waivers completed before the camper can board the bus.

Campers do not need to bring cell phones. They won’t work at camp, and they will be taken up if a counselor sees one being used.
Campers should bring a bottle for water, white clothes that may get dirty, sun screen, closed-toe shoes, a Bible, a notebook, a pen, anything they might need for a talent show act, and the other items noted on the packing list.

If you have any other questions, please leave them in the comment section below.
